TOP 10 DIFFERENT Tamil MOVIES OF 2007

There are movies which make a difference and there are movies that are different. When movies that are different make a difference (which is the case most of the times) we remember them for quite some time to come. Of the multitude of movies that came out over the past 365 days there are a few that were different and most of them, barring an unfortunate few managed to make a difference. If it is different, it is in here- the ‘stand out’ movies of 2007.

The image “http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-1/different-movie/images/kattradhu-tamil.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

These are times when formal learning of Tamil beyond school is a rarity. Kattradhu Tamil was about a person who learnt Tamil all the way to post graduation, lost his love to fate and his sanity to the world. There has been no film in the recallable past where the hero has looked so psychotically worn out.

The image “http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-1/different-movie/images/omabthu-rupai-nootu.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Estranged parents are not a new subject to cinema. But casting a fun actor like Sathyaraj in such a somber role, adapting a good work of literature on screen, retaining its soul and capturing the essence of a rustic village of Tamil Nadu; all these make Onbadhu Roobai Nottu an effort worth appreciating.

The image “http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-1/different-movie/images/08.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

A debut director may choose to play it safe, or so we might think. But Vetrimaaran showed the courage to be different. Making a full length feature film with hero’s favorite bike as the central core, showcasing gangsters and goons as they are, steering away from unnecessary theatrical moments, he ended up making what might be a trendsetter.

Movies set in a college campus need not always mean all fun, a bit of love and a tearful farewell. Balaji Shakthivel has taken a campus movie beyond these dimensions. We are normally used to seeing campus stories set wholly in Chennai, The Loyola, MCC or others. The choice of a Govt. Arts college far removed from the city lights too was a welcome change.

A sex worker is a victim of circumstances. They need not dress revealingly, wake only at noon, chew tobacco and speak foul language all the time and they are not people to be shunned away from society. A sensitive revelation of these truths and showcasing these women in a different light for the first time on Tamil screens, deserves the accolades it got.

You don’t need a long story full of twists and turns to make a movie. If you have a good idea and the will to implement it then you can make a good movie. Centered on auto racing, something hitherto untouched in Tamil cinema, Oram Po is a good example of how an out and out fun movie can be made.

The image “http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-1/different-movie/images/04.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Breaking stereotypes about disability is not common in Tamil cinema. But Mozhi did it by showing that hearing impaired person can be confident, inspired and independent, not at others’ mercy. Beautifully made, Mozhi is the kind of cinema that needs to be emulated.

The image “http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-1/different-movie/images/03.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

A movie that dared to have no songs or fights; that in itself makes it stand apart. The remake of the Marathi film, Dombivili Fast, Evano Oruvan was a wake up call to the common man to shake himself out of complacency and oblivion. This movie gets its place for great contemporary relevance of its theme.

The image “http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-1/different-movie/images/02.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
Movies have been made on cricket, but never on something as trivial as gully cricket, a group of youngsters (all new faces) and a script that depended heavily on their performances. Even the most intuitive of minds would have been stumped by the climax. The undiluted earnestness of youth shone through brilliantly.

The image “http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-1/different-movie/images/01.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
300 days and still showing, something we thought impossible on February 23, 2007. Never have the sunny, dry, vast stretches of lands of interior Tamil Nadu been captured with so much originality, never has the slang of the villages been spoken with more perfection, never has a director shown so much confidence in a rookie and never has it all paid off in such a great fashion

Biggest flops of bollwood 2007

By: NI Wire.

Dec 26 : After giving a brief of some successful movies that hit box office in 2007 now its time to point out some lows of Bollywood films which promised big with big brands but failed to live up to the expectations of audience and critic’s appreciation.

However, as there are a number of low budget movies came in the year 2007, their loss from the point of views of success and failure in terms of box office report doesn’t matter as their over all return was fair considering the larger one.

High profile names like Ram Gopal Varma, Yashraj-banner, Rani Mukherjee, Sanjay Leela Bhansali could not able to recreate their magical story telling creativity, production; so films like RGV Ki Aag, Tara Rum Pum, Saawariya fell flat in the eyes of audience.

Here’s a list of some films that can be counted on the top of the flop list:

Saalam-E-Ishq (Release – Jan 26): Nikhil Advani’s Salaam-e-Ishq despite a multi-starrer six-package love story and twelve talented actors like Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Priyanka Chopra, Akshaye Khanna, the film lost the ground just due to a poor conjoint of story line and also sometimes with so much different topics running side by side it only knocked down in the story telling sequence. However, the film gave a good musical experience.

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (Release - June 15): Despite having the names of Bollywood biggies like Amitabh, Abhishek Bachchan, Prity Zinta, Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta the film was only musical hit in the composition of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Director Shaad Ali only gave a glossy look and a short story with below par screenplay added to its failure.

RGV Ki Aag (Release - Aug 31): Director Ram Gopal Varma, Bollywood’s most unconventional director failed to make a mark with his attempt to remake a classic like ‘Sholay’. The presence of veteran actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan and Sushmita Sen were only good till the hype of the movie but bombed at the end.

Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (Release – Oct 12): Parinita fame director Pradeep Sarkar again made a film taking the journey of a woman but that in the absence of complete uniqueness in the story did not stand up to the height lacking the drama. The acting skill of Rani Mukherji and Konkana Sen, Kunal Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan and Anupam Kher though praiseworthy but the script somehow lacks the spark to make it a box office hit.

No Smoking (Release – Oct 26): The film directed by Anurga Kashyap and produced by Vishal Bharadwaj tried to address an important issue as the title suggests but it ended in a complete bizarre with an aimless object. It leaves audience to wonder in a dark forest without any logical end and didn’t explain neither the effects of chain smoking nor impress to put down that cigarette outside the theatre after a tired and exhausted time.

Saawariya (Release – Nov 09): Bollywood’s perfectionist director Sanjay Leela Bhansali known for films like ‘BLACK’ (2006), ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ (1999) and ‘Khamoshi –The Musical’ (1996) fell short this time with no mettle in the script. It only revivified the magic of Bhansali only in terms of screen presentation and a fairy tell world like visualisation. Though both newcomers Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor did their best as debut but a substance less topic was not enough.

Cash (Release – Aug 03): In Anubhav Sinha direction, the action packed thriller couldn’t create any rousing sense and resulted as a loss after spending so much on cast, location and dance sequences. Though the music freak audience loved to give a first look taking the impression of its promotion trek but over all it was another box office disaster as there was nothing new in a plot less journey.

Racism victim actress Celina Jaitley

Three Marathi actors recently denied entry into a restaurant in a suburban Mumbai 7-star hotel isn't an isolated case. Celina Jaitley had a nightmarish experience at the same establishment.

Recalling the incident, Celina told IANS: "I went into the sports lounge of this hotel with a gay foreigner friend of mine for just 10 minutes. I saw a tall imposing middle-aged German guy making obscene gestures at me. At first I ignored him out of embarrassment. Then he got bolder and came up to me to tell me in German in picturesque detail what he'd like to do to me.

"He didn't know I speak German fluently. That was it. I asked the hotel's authorities to deal with the situation, since they hadn't allowed my bodyguard in. Forget about challenging the German lecher, they said they didn't know who he was! Luckily I had seen him sign his room number on his bill."

When the posh hotel's cowardly personnel did nothing to help Celina, she left but returned the next day with three vans of cops, got the man out of his room and confronted him.

"He fell to his knees and cried and begged saying he has a wife and children back home. He should've thought of them when he treated me to such vulgar intentions. I made him write an apology and then for his family's sake decided not to press charges," Celina told IANS.

"The worst thing was, nobody in the hotel wanted to co-operate with me in dealing with this situation. Even some of my well-wishers advised me to forget about it.

"What I want to know is, whom do these hotels cater to? Are they for us Indians? Or are all the amenities and facilities only for foreigners? Why are foreigners given such blatantly preferential treatment in these posh hotels?"

The actress decided to speak up on the matter after she heard about the humiliation of the Marathi actors who weren't allowed in because of their Kolhapuri slippers.

"This isn't the first time that such an incident has happened. Some time ago, a dress designer friend of mine requested the same hotel's security to inspect his car in the portico, as he didn't want the clothes in the car to get wet in the rain. There was an argument. They slammed the car bonnet on his hand and fractured it...

"Don't they care about people who are not foreigners? Are these high-flying places so busy making big bucks that they've forgotten basic sense of decency?"

Hindus attacks Churches on Christmas one killed 30 injured

Indian churches come under attack

Swami Laxmananda
Mr Saraswati was allegedly attacked by a mob
A curfew has been imposed in parts of the eastern Indian state of Orissa after Hindu hardliners attacked up to a dozen Christian churches, police say.

One person was killed and more than 25 were injured in the violence in the Kandhamal area on Tuesday, police said.

The clashes followed differences between local Hindu tribal and Christians over Christmas celebrations.

Security was tightened at churches in Orissa, which has seen violence between Christians and Hindus in the past.

The trouble began on Monday morning at Brahmanigaon village, 150km (95 miles) from the main district town of Phulbani, over Christmas celebrations.

While local Christians wanted to celebrate the event in a grand way, the local Hindus opposed the plan, police said.

This led to a clash between the two communities.

Trouble escalated in the afternoon after a group of people attacked the vehicle carrying a local Hindu leader, Swami Laxamananda Saraswati, as he was on his way to the area.

While his vehicle was partially damaged, Mr Saraswati and one of those accompanying him were injured, district police chief Narasimha Bhol said.

Mr Saraswati is recovering in a government hospital.

Sex in Bollywood hindi movies ? Does it really matter?

Sex in Bollywood films? Does it really matter?

Download Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam mp3 music songs free - www.indiancinesongs.com

Sex in Bollywood films is a part and parcel of entertainment. The most successful adult Hindi film so far ‘Murder’ released in 2004 bears testimony to this. Although adapted by the Hollywood flick ‘Unfaithful’ Murder become a nationwide hit thanks to the sleaze and the love-making scenes of Mallika Shararat (sorry Sherawat). Neha Dhupia did an encore in the cheaply made but sleazy Julie which was a surprise hit. The movie was for the mass, to bait (please don’t treat these three words as single) and the junta loved it. Neha Dhupia was so much convinced about films getting sexed-up that her quote “only sex and Shahrukh sell” become more famous than her.

However, these bold girls had to take back their words when Neha Dhupia’s bolder movie Sheesha flopped and Mallika’s cleavage revealing ‘Back ke rehna re baba’ had audience screaming just that. Now Mallika has been relegated to the slutty character that lusts after the hero and gets nothing in the end…she did that in movies like Guru, Aap Ka Surroor and Shaadi se Pehle. The bad girl part is doing nothing GOOD to Mallika’s career. Mallika seriously needs to read her scripts well and choose good films. Neha Dhupia who arrived with a bang is now quietly doing sissie roles a la Chup Chup ke. Looks like the boob girls are running for cover. No more breast of luck for Mallika Sherawat, unless she comes up with a convincing performance!

In fact most of the sex-kittens of Bollywood have turned puppy later. Bipasha stirred and stimulated in Jism and Raaz, but has now toned down her exposure bit because she knew her cleavage would not take her far, if she didn’t get her act going(pun intended).

Priyanka Chopra’s character was that of a sexual monster that was looking for a male prostitute in an employee(Akshay Kumar getting lucky once again) in Aitraaz. The film did wonders for her but she felt somewhat guilty of the raunchy scenes she had done in the film. Considering that she is now a top-bracket actress, Priyanka Chopra is conscious about her image and has ‘aitraaz’ about exposing, without any ‘meat’ in the story.

Actresses debut with flash lines like “I don’t have any qualms about exposing” and then end up with “if the script demands it” after getting established. In a way, the exposure is just to make people notice them and then act sensible. There are also some actresses like Mahima Choudary who was an ice-maiden in her earlier movies and then began to reveal her huge assets, as a last ditch to salvage her career. Er.. I hope when they say they want meatier roles, they don’t mean films which show their meat. Well, I have my doubts intact because the Celina Jaitleys and Riya Sens of the world flash their curves which reveal everything but their talent.

Download all recent bollywood songs - www.indiancinesongs.com

People who are serious about watching and love their dose of entertainment would rather watch a powerhouse performance of Tabu or Rani Mukherjee’s histrionics. It is not that these Bollywood actresses have not revealed but they have given us some good films and ‘vow’ performances, which is why audience prefer to look at these actresses above the breast level. Ayesha Takia wore less and did not get much in Tarzan. She did not reveal even her neck in Dor and Dor continues to be one of the best films made in India. Ayesha Takia is the only actress who has stuck to the ‘no kissing’ ‘no cleavage-revealing’ and ‘no-bedroom scenes’ policy and has been successful. It is such an irony that the girl who does not reveal much is the most fantasized actress. So, there you have it…Sex alone does not sell…Good films sell!
